Teaching

Teaching is praxis. My pedagogy incorporates experimentation, examination, and community-building as we learn together how sociology offers a toolbox for understanding our social world and creating change within it.

In Teaching to Transgress (1994), bell hooks writes “In regards to pedagogical practices we must intervene to alter the existing pedagogical structure and to teach students how to listen, how to hear one another” (p. 150). As a teacher, I continue to learn from my students and colleagues how to better create a classroom environment in which we can challenge, support, inspire, and learn from each other.
